The World’s Tallest Tower, The Tokyo SkyTree Tower, Had Its Grand Opening Today

World’s Tallest Tower, The Tokyo SkyTree Tower

Despite the inclement weather, the world’s tallest tower, The Tokyo Sky Tree Tower opened today, 22 May 2012 as planned.

The Japanese locals came out in droves armed with umbrellas and see through panchos.  All this to celebrate the opening of the world’s tallest tower at 634m.

Unless you had a Japanese address or were invited you could not get a ticket for the opening.  As a matter of fact you can’t get any tickets now until after 11 July, 2012 when they go on sale.  You can find more details at http://www.tokyo-skytree.jp/en/.

They’ve even created a new subway station right beside the new tower; its on the Tobu line and appropriately called the Tobu Sky Tree Station.

Due to my lack of Japanese language skill, I was unable to get the stories behind the first five people on line for the world’s tallest tower, but I did get their photos though :-).

Here are some pictures of the pre-opening night and the opening day; enjoy.

Were you there to see the opening?  What did you think? Have you visited any of the other tall towers around the world?

  1. Nancie, just seeing your message here; oops…
That tower is the Taipei 101 in Taipei. I still have not made it back there just yet, so need to do so.
