| Day Trip to Dallas Love Field |
Here are some photos of the airport taken at various times
| On June 11, 1998 Continental Airlines launched daily Regional jet
service from George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston Texas USA to Dallas Love
Field in Dallas Texas USA. On June 13, 1998, I decided to visit the infamous Love
Field. I boarded the 7:55 a.m. ERJ145, aircraft number N16947 and took my Exit row seat. In a few minutes we leveled off at our cruisin' altitude of 16,000'. This lasted for maybe all of ten minutes. As we descended into Love, I could see the Dallas and Forth Worth skylines off to the left. In the distance, there was Dallas' main airport DFW. The landing into DAL was very smooth, the ERJ is an awesome airplane. Continental has two gates (41 & 42) at Love that has been newly designed. Everything at this station is new! I could not tell the last time I went to an airport and saw new tugs and bag loaders, it was truly impressive. I chit chatted with the folks at the counter, then went to look around the airport. For a small airport, it is quite large! I walked down to the Southwest area which was buzzing with passengers. You would think that you walked into a small town market. The new Saved By the Bell was on, so in the interest of killing time, I watched it. That show is so stupid. I then walked up to the museum which is on the second floor of the airport's main lobby. You have to go see this place. It dates back to the War years. There is the entire history of Love Field, even how it got its name. There were models, engines, pictures, etc. you name it. The museum also have an area with a video and a TV. There are several videos that you can watch for free. The museum's admission is only $2, well worth it. By now I looked through the window and saw the ERJ returning. I said my good-byes and headed for gate 41. We departed promptly at 12:25 p.m. and headed for Houston. Once in Houston, we had to wait to get a gate as we got to Terminal B too early. All in all, a day well spent!
