Boeing 737-42C in Athens International, Athens Greece (ATH) |
On Monday, October 26, 1998, KL's flight 1575, a B737-400 (PH-BPD formerly G-UKLC, named Guglielmo Marconi) was hit by lightening about 4 minutes into the flight from Amsterdam Schipol Airport (AMS). The bins flew open, a loptop inside the bin that was hit was fried, and hairs were standing on ends. No one was injured, just really shaken up. The flight continued on to Athens and landed safely. Here are some photos after landing. All photos by Dave Askren.
The wite mark to the right of the KL/ NW logo is where the lightening struck. There was actually a tiny hole in the fusealge above the "+." It is not clearly visible in this photo.
